Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Republic of Ireland forward Leanne Kiernan from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee.
BBC Sport reported last week that the clubs were in advanced discussions over Kiernan’s move, with her departure from Liverpool nearing after five years at the club. It is understood the 27-year-old has joined Newcastle on a three-year contract.
Kiernan scored 23 goals in 76 appearances for Liverpool and was an important part of their WSL 2 title-winning season in 2022, finishing that campaign as the club’s leading scorer with 14 goals.
She leaves Liverpool as their second-highest goalscorer of the WSL era, although injuries affected her later seasons with the club. Kiernan spent the second half of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, despite having at least a year left on her Liverpool deal after signing an extension in 2025.
Before moving to Liverpool, Kiernan made more than 40 WSL appearances for West Ham after starting her career at Shelbourne. She has also won 38 caps for the Republic of Ireland since making her international debut in 2017.
Kiernan struggled for regular minutes under Liverpool manager Gareth Taylor, starting only once in the WSL before joining Nottingham Forest in January. Liverpool have strengthened their attacking options this summer with the signing of Germany forward Vivien Endemann from Wolfsburg.
Her arrival adds further attacking depth to Newcastle, who have made eight signings during a busy transfer window as they prepare to compete for the WSL 2 title.
