Reform UK has reported Green Party leader Zack Polanski to police after he shared an Instagram post that included an image of a man wearing a T-shirt with the name “Nigel” and a guillotine design, BBC News reported.
The image was among several pictures from a Green Party event posted on Sunday. According to the BBC, Polanski had accepted a collaboration request from another account, which shared the post with his 713,000 followers.
Nigel Farage, the Reform UK leader, posted a screenshot on X and said he would expect to be arrested if he shared anything similarly “inciteful”.
A Green Party spokesperson said Polanski removed the post as soon as the image was brought to his attention. The spokesperson said he “unequivocally does not support this type of dangerous message” and had accepted the post without realising what all the images showed.
The Metropolitan Police said on X that it had received a third-party report about an image shared on social media and that officers were making enquiries. The BBC said it understood Polanski had not been contacted by police.
Reform UK’s home affairs spokesperson Zia Yusuf said the party had reported the matter to police and would also raise it with the monitoring officer at the Greater London Assembly, where Polanski is an elected member. He alleged the image could amount to incitement.
The Green Party spokesperson said Polanski condemned the T-shirt image, describing it as in poor taste at a time of concern over the security of public figures. The party called for people involved in public debate to show kindness and avoid encouraging further division.
The photographer who said he took the image apologised to Polanski on X, according to the BBC, saying it was not Polanski’s fault and that the T-shirt was intended as satire rather than a serious threat.
