Sweden’s two main party blocs were almost level after Sunday’s vote, with projections indicating only a narrow gap between them as counting continued.
With 50% of votes counted, the blocs were separated by around 20,000 votes, according to Swedish public broadcaster SVT. The figures pointed to a closely balanced contest, with neither side clearly ahead at that stage of the count.
The projection suggested that the final outcome could depend on the remaining ballots still to be counted. At the halfway point in the process, the margin reported was small enough to leave the overall result unresolved.
The latest known position was that vote counting was still under way, with the two blocs effectively tied in the projections available after Sunday’s vote. Further results were expected to clarify whether either side could establish a decisive lead.
