Two friends who met while working at Manchester Airport later discovered they were biological brother and sister, according to BBC News.
Dave Green was managing the airport bus station in 2005 while Andrea Urmston worked servicing vending machines. The pair became close over the following two years, regularly keeping in touch outside work.
During a phone call, Dave told Andrea he had been adopted as a baby and that his birth name was Stuart Proudlove. Andrea said she was stunned, as Proudlove was her maiden name and she knew she had a brother who had been adopted before she was born.
Andrea checked with her mother, Susan, and confirmed that Dave’s birth date, 24 March 1966, matched that of her long-lost brother. She then went to collect him and took him to meet their mother.
Dave later realised he had spent years driving past his birth mother’s house on a bus route he used to cover, without knowing his family was nearby.
Andrea told the BBC the reunion involved tears and hugs, and said it was an extraordinary moment to bring her mother and brother together. Susan had previously tried to trace her son through the Salvation Army but had not succeeded.
Dave said he had known from the age of 10 that he was adopted and had enjoyed a happy childhood, adding that he had not felt a need to search for his birth family.
Their mother has since died, but Dave and Andrea said they were grateful she had been reunited with her son. The siblings now live together in Kidsgrove, Staffordshire, and described finding each other as their “lottery win”.
