Waste workers in Italy have helped recover a discarded lottery ticket worth €1m after the player realised he had thrown away the slip carrying his winning numbers.
The player only understood the scale of the mistake after members of his family told him that the numbers he had played for years had been drawn. By that point, the ticket had already been put in the bin.
Waste workers were then involved in the search for the missing ticket, helping to locate it after it had been discarded. The ticket was linked to a €1m lottery prize.
